Over from Dover

On 6th August 2011 I took part in a six person Channel Relay. Our team was called “Over from Dover” and we made it over from Dover in 13 hours and 52 minutes.

I can honestly say that this was one of the best and exciting experiences of my life. I was lucky to share the experience with five fantastic team members – Joanne Postins, Kate Robarts, Jim Boucher, Ellery McGowan and Phil Sears. When we weren’t swimming, we were laughing (or sleeping). The weather was fairly grim all day and in my third hour’s swimming it was quite choppy and I didn’t feel too special.

I was the first swimmer in and started at 2:28am in complete darkness. I found the pebbly beach by swimming into it! I was both terrified and excited at the same time.

Jim finished at Wissant beach in an area surrounded by WWII pillboxes marked DANGER!

The whole experience was very enjoyable and cemented the idea that I wanted to do a solo swim one day……..
